The Recreation Centers of Sun City, Inc. recently
announced that one of the three tennis courts at Mountain View
Recreation Center has been converted to four pickleball courts.
RCSC has four other pickleball courts that are located at Marinette
Recreation Center. The courts at Mountain View are being added as
a trial to determine if there is enough cardholder interest to support
the game in the southern part of Sun City.
At the Director/Member Exchange on Monday, April 2, some
RCSC cardholders expressed concern about losing one of Mountain View’s
three tennis courts. “This is only a trial,” responded RCSC General
Manager Jan Ek. “Many of our cardholders enjoy pickleball and we
are adding the courts at Mountain View to see if there is enough
interest to support pickleball courts south of Grand Ave.”
RCSC Board President Denny Nichols also noted that usage
of the Mountain View tennis courts has been down over the last five
years, which also contributed to the selection of the center as the
trial site.
Pickleball is played on a badminton-size court with the
net lowered to 34 inches above the ground. Players use large
wooden paddles and a “wiffle”-type ball.
