RCSC Seeks Feedback and Suggestions from Facility Users

The Recreation Centers of Sun City, Inc. wants to know what its members, cardholders and guests think about the RCSC facilities and service.  In the fall RCSC placed comment cards and boxes labeled “Tell Us What You Think” at all of the recreation centers, golf courses, bowling centers and food service facilities.  Each division has its own comment card with questions specific to those facilities, and patrons are asked to rate the facilities on different criteria.  Each card also offers space to write any additional comments or concerns.

All comment cards are read and recorded by RCSC staff, and all comments and suggestions are forwarded to facility managers.  Cards are not discarded under any circumstances.  Members and guests are welcome to leave a name and phone number and an RCSC facility manager or representative will contact you regarding your comments—within a few business days, in most cases.

If a member or guest notices an issue or problem that could threaten anyone’s safety, however, he or she is asked to notify a facility manager immediately instead of filling out a comment card.  An example of this kind of issue occurred when a cardholder filled out a comment card to report that a swimsuit dryer was coming loose from the wall on which it was mounted.  A safety hazard was created when the issue was not immediately reported.  “We need cardholders to know that in these kinds of cases they need to go to a monitor or staff member to report the situation,” said RCSC General Manager Jan Ek.

According to RCSC management, comments received through the program have already resulted in process improvements and better service.  Visitors have left comments about everything from pool temperature to particularly helpful staff members to excess leaves on miniature golf courses, and RCSC has been able to act on these concerns when possible.  For example, when regular patrons at the Bell Center fitness facility commented that there were not enough hair dryers in the ladies’ locker room, more hair dryers were ordered within a week.  At the South golf course, golfer Chuck Sohne noticed that snowbirds and other new golfers often had a difficult time finding the #1 and #10 tees, so he filled out a comment card suggesting that signs be posted to show the way.  Directional signs are now posted, and Mr. Sohne was pleased to see that RCSC management listened to his concern and made a change. “I’ve heard so many people make suggestions,” he said, “and I’d tell them to go tell someone, and they’d say, no, no one will listen.  But that’s not really true.  Our comments are being read, and that’s pretty neat.”  Mr. Sohne was also appreciative of the fact that an RCSC representative called to thank him for his suggestion and let him know the signs would be posted.

RCSC encourages members to “tell [us] what you think” and make their concerns known—good and bad.  “The comment cards help us know where we need to make improvements,” said RCSC Assistant General Manager Jim Wellman.  “The users of the facilities know firsthand what is working and what isn’t, so their comments are invaluable.”  Mr. Sohne agrees.  “You need input from others,” he said.  “One head isn’t as good as 150!”
