With the
temperatures rising outside, Sundial Recreation Center begins heating up
with the return of the free summer concerts. This year, RCSC brings
three entertaining shows that are sure to be filled with great music and
lots of fun.
Desert
City Six Dixieland Band
Sunday, June 15
The Desert City Six Dixieland Band kicks off the Sundial summer
concerts with a show featuring the group’s joyful and jazzy sound. The
Arizona group plays a mix of New Orleans traditional jazz, Chicago swing
and San Francisco revival. Each band member preserves the style learned
from the fabulous New Orleans masters who pioneered the Dixieland Jazz
sound. The Desert City Six plays heartfelt music with a hot and
spirited, and sometimes sweet and restrained, style.
Sweet
Adelines Barbershop Quartets
Sunday, July 13
The Sundial summer concerts continue in July with a quartet of
women’s quartets. Four-part harmony will be the order of the day as each
group of women performs classic tunes such as “Embraceable You,” “I
Don’t Know Why I Love You Like I Do” and “Tuxedo Junction.” After each
group performs a set, all four will come together on stage to
collaborate on several songs to end the show.
Randy
Sparks’ One-Man Show (with two people)
Sunday, August 24
Mark the end of the Sundial summer concerts with some ice cream
and entertaining stories and songs provided by Randy Sparks, the founder
of the New Christy Minstrels folk group. Sparks will bring his one-man
show (with two people) to Sun City during the ever-popular ice cream
social to play some of his favorite songs and share some of his humorous
stories. Sparks’ one-man show (with two people) will also feature Becky
Jo Benson, who sings like an angel and will play any instrument needed.
This year’s
set of summer concerts at Sundial are sure to be memorable and filled
with lots of laughs and entertainment. All shows begin at 7 p.m. and are
open to all RCSC cardholders and their guests. Chairs will be provided,
but no food will be available for purchase. Sundial Recreation Center is
at 14801 N. 103rd Ave. For further information call 876-3000, Monday
through Friday and inquire in the Club Office at Lakeview Recreation
