RCSC Board Policy to Clarify Food
and Beverage Regulations
After meeting with Maricopa County Environmental Services Department
officials, the Recreation Centers of Sun City, Inc. Board of Directors
will vote at the December Board meeting on a motion to revise Board
Policy regarding outside food and beverages, use of the recreation
center kitchens and other rules and regulations regarding food and
beverages. The proposed changes to Board Policy #25 reflect that outside
food and beverages will not be permitted inside Mojoes Restaurant (the
former Viewpoint Café), the
LaPetite Café and Bell Lanes, the five Mojoes Cafés (former Grill &
Delis) or on the contiguous patios or bowling center concourses as long
as the neighboring food and beverage establishment is open for business.
In addition, outside food and beverages will not be permitted within the
meeting room adjacent to the Mojoes Café at Riverview Golf Course as
long as the café is open for business. The revised policy was
distributed at the December 3 Directors/Members Exchange and will be
discussed at the December 10 Directors/Members Exchange.
"Contrary
to earlier information provided by Maricopa County," noted Denny
Nichols, President of the RCSC Board of Directors, "we have been assured
by Maricopa County officials that our cardholders can bring outside food
and beverages onto the golf courses without any repercussions from the
county. This is good news!"
Cardholders may also hold pot lucks or other events in the locations
adjacent to the restaurants or cafes after business hours. Cardholders
may contact the RCSC Bowling Supervisors or Manager regarding events in
the bowling center concourses (876-3055) and the Clubs and Activities
Office for events in the Riverview Golf Course meeting room (876-3000).
Based on clarifications from the Environmental Health Division Officials
of the Maricopa County Environmental Services Department, Board Policy
#25 has also been slightly revised to clarify regulations for other RCSC
events involving food as well as the use of the numerous kitchens in the
RCSC recreation centers. Pot lucks, provided they are not located in an
area adjacent to a food and beverage establishment, are permitted as
long as they are not open to the public. If a club or organization
sponsoring the event wishes to accept donations or charge a fee for a
pot luck or meal they have prepared, they may be required to obtain a
permit from the Maricopa County Environmental Health Division. For bake
sales, Cardholders must follow the Standard Operating Procedures for
bake sales from the Maricopa County Environmental Services Department.
RCSC Cardholders may use the kitchens at the recreation centers to warm
or cool food for pot lucks or meals; however, preparing food for cooking
from a raw state is not permitted. RCSC kitchens are not currently
subject to regulation or inspection by Maricopa County Environmental
Health Division. Therefore, if an event or pot luck is held in a
location where a sign is not already visible stating that the food being
served is not prepared in a kitchen that is subject to regulation and
inspection by the Maricopa County Environmental Health Division, a
temporary sign must be prepared and posted.
Cardholders may also hire caterers for their events, but caterers hired
may not use any recreation center kitchen to prepare, originally chill,
initially cook or heat, or store food. Only caterers with valid permits
and certificates of insurance on file in the RCSC Clubs and Activities
Office may provide service within RCSC facilities or on RCSC property.
