The
Recreation Centers of Sun City, Inc. is in the process of installing
management software for its eight golf courses. The software, called
Chelsea, will allow RCSC to electronically record tee times, check in
golfers and handle merchandise sales. According to RCSC Director of
Golf and Grounds John Snyder, the new software will streamline the
check-in process, provide RCSC management with excellent statistics for
reporting and eliminate the paper tee sheets that have traditionally
been used at the courses. The Chelsea software will be operational at
all eight golf courses by Monday, August 27.
The RCSC system for making tee time reservations will remain unchanged;
RCSC golfers can still reserve tee times five days in advance either by
phone or by entering a lottery at the golf course at which they wish to
play. RCSC has no plans nor has had any plans to adopt a computerized
tee time reservation system similar to that used by Sun City West. The
Chelsea software will simply allow the Pro Shop employees to
electronically record the reserved tee times instead of writing them by
hand on a tee sheet. The software will also be linked with RCSC’s
Cardholder database. When the golfer arrives to check in on the day of
his or her reserved tee time, he or she shows the Pro Shop employee his
or her RCSC card and the employee is quickly able to call up the golfer
by his or her Cardholder ID, letting the staff and golfer know the
applicable green fee and whether the golfer is current with his or her
golf membership and/or annual property assessment.
Golfers who arrive to check in but have not paid or renewed their golf
membership or property assessment may still play golf at that time, but
must pay guest rates.
Golfers are
not required to show their RCSC card when they reserve a tee time at the
lottery, but golfers who do bring their card or offer their ID number
over the phone may find the check-in process move more quickly, and they
will also be advised ahead of time if they are a Cardholder in good
standing.
Some Sun City
golfers have expressed concern that RCSC will be moving to a
computerized tee time reservation system, noted Mr. Snyder. “This is not
the case,” he said. “Sun City golfers will still be able to reserve tee
times five days in advance through the onsite lottery as well as via
telephone calls. The only difference in the process will be on the
internal side, in how RCSC records the information.”
“The new
Chelsea software is a great development both for the Pro Shop staff as
well as the golfers,” he continued. “The check-in process will be
easier, making the golfing experience all the more pleasant for our
golfers, and RCSC management will have highly organized,
easily-accessible records and tatistics which we can use to make
informed operational decisions.”
