On Tuesday, April 15, the Board of Directors of the Sun City Fire
District blasted the “foes” of the fire flow improvement project at
their monthly meeting.
Improvements of the fire flow water is not opposed by the Recreation
Centers of Sun City, Inc. but the retirement community of Sun City will
bear the major cost of the improvement, which will benefit the community
of Youngtown and a portion of the City of Peoria. Each of these
communities should, in all fairness, finance the cost of the improvement
made in their community.
Sun City has over 25,000 residences as well as the recreation facilities
and businesses within the community. Only a small portion or percentage
of Sun City needs fire flow water improvement. If Youngtown and Peoria
require an improvement to their fire flow, it is the responsibility of
those communities to finance their improvements.
Youngtown and Peoria in essence are “taxing” Sun City to make water flow
improvements in their towns. Arizona American Water could certainly
separate the cost in each of the three “cities” and bill costs
accordingly.
The Board of Directors of the Recreation Centers of Sun City, Inc.
recognize the need for water flow improvements in a small area of Sun
City but do not feel that Sun City is responsible to finance the
improvement outside the boundaries of Sun City.
Fire Chief Jim Sebert stated, “We have been barred in the past from
speaking at RCSC meetings because we are not residents.” At least two
members of the SCFD Board are residents, yet no member has appeared to
speak at the RCSC’s Monthly Board meeting on the last Thursday of the
month or at any of the Directors/Members Exchanges on the first and
third Mondays of the month.
